Artist Statement

For years, I wondered what had first drawn me to beauty. The answer was surprisingly close at hand. My parents' house had a dry landscape garden, and my father always took great care to maintain every corner of it. Japanese gardens possess a unique beauty that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

I aim to abstractly reinterpret the unique Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi through the eyes of an artist, compress it onto a canvas, and reconstruct it as a “Japanese garden that can be displayed in a home.”
